WFO Nashville, TN recently held a coordination meeting with local TV meteorologists, and 10 of the 12 weather broadcasters at all four Nashville stations attended. Warning Coordination Meteorologist Jerry Orchanian, Science and Operations Officer Henry Steigerwaldt, Senior Forecaster Mark Richards, Information Technology Officer Michael Davis and Meteorologist-In-Charge Larry Vannozzi met with their TV partners to discuss a variety of items. Major topics included Instant Messaging, debut of WFO Nashville’s graphical HWO, web page changes (stepping through the new standardized climate page was a big hit), brief overview of gridded forecasts, and the Enhanced Fujita Scale The meeting was very successful and highly interactive with plenty of great dialogue. The WFO received feedback which will help improve services. All parties agreed to make this a regular event.

WFO Detroit forecaster Brian Montgomery interacts with NOAA boating customers at the 2006 Detroit Boat Show at Cobo Center. From February 18-26, NOAA’s National Weather Service and Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab(GLERL) collaborated on an information booth at the event, one of the nation’s largest boat shows. Over 2000 people visited the booth and talked with NOAA personnel regarding marine weather safety, forecasts, NDFD, NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards, invasive species, Great Lakes water levels, and environmental research projects at GLERL. WFO La Crosse hosted a booth at the recent La Crosse Boat, Sport, and Travel Show Approximately 1,300 people visited the exhibit, which included a collection of brochures, a NOAA Weather Radio display, and the crowd favorite tornado chamber. Several new brochures, designed by Outreach Team members, were available as well. Exhibit staff received many positive comments about NWS services, especially the web page and NOAA Weather Radio. Staff who assisted with the show included Steve Thompson,
Rod Swerman, Lynn Zintz, Dan Baumgardt, Glenn Lussky, and Todd Shea.

A steady stream of adults and wide-eyed children enjoyed the hands-on activities at the NOAA exhibit booth during Discover Engineering Family Day recently at the National Building Museum (NBM) in Washington, DC. The day long NOAA exhibit was organized by NOAA’s Office of Education, and staffed by Mike Crane of the Office of Education’s Educational Partnership Program, Angela Watts-Perry of the Outreach Unit from the NOAA Office of Public Affairs, her son Jason, Deborah Jones and Doug Young from the NWS Office of Services, and Melanie Taylor, a Keane Federal Systems contractor working with the NWS Office of Science and Technology. Gregory Waller (left, West Gulf River Forecast Center), Greg Patrick (center, WFO Fort Worth), and Paul McKee (WGRFC) comprised one of two teams of NWS participants in the 2006 Cowtown Marathon Relay in Fort Worth, TX recently. Two employees each from the WFO, West Gulf River Forecast Center (WGRFC), and Southern Region Headquarters (SRH) offices combined to create two three-member teams for the 26.2 mile run.

Dan Huckaby (left, WFO Fort Worth), Tom Bradshaw (center, NWS Southern Region Headquarters), and John Duxbury (NWS SRH) also participated on one of two NWS relay teams in the 2006 Cowtown Marathon. Each team member ran approximately 1/3 of the marathon distance. The Cowtown Marathon is one of several accredited races near downtown Fort Worth that is held annually on a Saturday in late February. By participating in the Marathon Relay event, NWS employees got the chance to not only interact with the Fort Worth community, but also to contribute to an organization dedicated to promoting community health and wellness. After months of training, both teams finished the event in less than 4 hours.
